Early C19. Freestone. Classical style. A cube with identical faces, each
having an arched recess beneath a dentilled pediment supported on pilasters,
the whole crowned by a dome on a square plinth, and this surmounted by a
C19 cast iron lamp bracket. A bas-relief on the west side portraying Dr
Johnson doing penance in the Market Place is similar in style to the reliefs
by Lucas on the Johnson memorial statue at Lichfield but was probably added
late C19.
