garden wall.

Former almshouses. Dated 1860. Red brick with ashlar dressings;
shaped tile roof with plain tile bands and coped verges on shaped
kneelers; brick ridge stacks. One storey and attic; 1:1:1 bays,
central gabled break, latticed casements with straight hood moulds;
central gabled porch with segmental pointed arch and returned hood
mould, inscription above: "MARCHINGTON / ALMS HOUSES / BUILT A.D. D
1860"; doors to left and right with segmental pointed heads and hood
moulds stepped over blind shields. Low coped wall to front and sides
encloses a garden. Built for the Chawners of Houndhill Farmhouse
(q.v.). Part of a picturesque group of buildings including Marchington
Hall (q.v.).
