Sudbury Crossing Signal Box

Signal box on the (former) North Staffordshire Railway. 1885. Design derived from theMcKenzie & Holland type one box, but constructed by the railway company (rather than contractors). Brick in English bond; Welsh slate roof. Ground floor with two round-headed windows with glazing bars to locking room (track side); continuous fenestration above returning to each end. Wavy barge-boarding and weather-bearded gable walls. Sash window and tall stack to rear. Open steps to door. The box is understood to retain its original gatewheel and 24-lever frame.
