No 41, Chirton Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. Late C17-early C18, and C19, incorporating some earlier
brickwork. Diaper brickwork with thatched roof. Two storeys,
probably originally a 2-bay lobby entry plan in timber framing,
reclad in brick in C18 and extended southward by cross passage and
one bay in C19. Entrance between bays 2 and 3, a 6-panelled door,
the upper panels glazed, and canopy on simple cut brackets. C19
three-light transomed windows, those to ground floor stopped
chamfered, and with stone sills and segmental brick arches with
keyblocks. Three-light casement windows to upper floor. Two
course plat band. C20 bay window at south end. Brick stack and
gable stack to addition. Blind panel over door.
Interior: North room, now breakfast room, has chalkstone stack,
lintel replaced, and fireplace with timber lintel and replaced
brick jambs in dining room at back. This room also with chamfered
spine beam with round and notch stops. Two binders to kitchen, one
replaced. Coloured quarry tile floor to cross passage of
extension.
