Long narrow medieval bridge over the River Sowe, widened on south side in early
C19 by John Rennie. The C19 work is in red sandstone ashlar. Parapets with
plain copings and rectangular piers at the ends. String band at road level.
The early C19 portion is of eight elliptical arches (the eastern three span the
river and five flood water arches on western bank of river). Half round cut
waters on south side, triangular cut water on north side of medieval portion.
