Public house. C18, remodelled early/mid C19. Brick with stuccoed front and right
return side. Plain tile roof, hipped to right, has deep boxed eaves; rebuilt
brick ridge stack. Triple-depth plan. 3 storeys; 3 bays. Front to Church Street
is largely symmetrical and has banded rustication to ground floor, and scored
stucco with alternating quoins to upper floors. Double-leaf sash doors with
blocked overlight in projecting simple Tuscan doorcase with pilasters and
entablature. Ground floor has bay windows with 16-pane sash to front and curved
8-pane sashes to sides. Narrower canted bay above on left; large canted bay
above on right. No central or second-floor windows. Left return side of
colourwashed brick has irregular gabled ranges. Right return side to Derby Lane
is a 3-window range. Left corner has 16-pane sash in projecting surround with
simple Tuscan pilasters and entablature. Recessed C20 door and two C20 windows.
Upper floors have sashes, 6-pane to second floor. Interior has some chamfered
beams, one with an ogee stop.
