A probable late C17 to early C18 farmhouse, subsequently converted into cottages and
the roof heightened and slated in the mid C19. 2 storeys painted brick on rubble
foundations. Slate roof with 2 chimneystacks. 5 cambered headed casements. Later
outshuts to rear. Nos 5 and 5A have gabled Weatherporches and No 5 retains an C18
6 fielded panelled door. No 5 has an early C18 plain wooden lintel over an open
fireplace, some C18 plank panelling, 4 panelled door and a fine early C18 built-in
wooden corner china cupboard with domed head, shaved shelves and 6 fielded panels to
doors. To 5A has a central chamfered beam and a cupboard to the right of the fireplace
with C18 L-shaped iron hinges. Some of the floorboards on the 1st floor are reused C16
or C17 timber and one has the carpenter's mark "VIIII". No 7, which is thought to have
been a, stockman's cottage has an interior domed bread oven. No 5 had a dairy serving
the village in the end room within living memory.
