House. C17, rebuilt mid C18. Originally timber framed; outer
walls rebuilt in brick (front and right hand gable) and stone
rubble (mostly flint) with quoins. Thatched roof. Brick stacks.
Main block of 4 bays, originally open to roof; from C18 one-and-a-
half storeys. Rear addition 2 storeys and attic, mid C18,
contemporary with reconstruction of outer walls in stone. Lobby
entry in second bay from right, via 6-panelled door under simple
gabled hood; 4 windows (1 to right, 2 to left), C20 two-light
timber casements with glazing bars in openings widened to
accommodate them, under original segmental heads. Above hipped
dormer to left with 3-light casement and glazing bars; large
gabled dormer over next bay with similar window. Roof half-hipped
to both ends; cruciform ridge stack above front door. Original
small panel timber framing now confined to 3 cross walls, built up
from relatively short interlocking studs and rails, and thus
lacking continuous tie beams. Principal rafters only to level of
upper collar as truncated upper crucks. Chimney stack
exceptionally large, with smoking chamber reached from door on
upper floor. Stack replaces smoke bay in same position. Small
C18 staircase with column-on-vase balusters.
