7/3 Hotspur House
II
House. Late C16-C17. Timber framed with wattle and daub
infilling, partly replaced with colourwashed brick. Thatched roof.
Single storey and attic, partly raised to 2 storeys later in C17.
Three and a half bays. Central hall bay with stack in the half-bay
to north, and service bay to rear. To south, third bay, possibly
original parlour. Framing on sarsen sill, 3 panels high, the lower
two panels of square framing, and above a heavy bressumer, upper
panel of close studding and ogee corner braces. Wall plate outset
and chamfered. Hall and bay to south raised by further 2 panels of
rectangular framing, also having ogee braces. Some original timber
windows with dowelled moulded heads, now blocked, and later timber
casement windows. Weathered hood boards to bressumer, wall plate
and upper windows. Pantiled weatherboarded lean-to to south gable.
Interior has chamfered ceiling beams, and fireplaces blocked. Not
seen in detail.
