- Manor Farmhouse
( formerly listed
29.7.55 as Wakelyns)
-- II
Farmhouse. Late C16 with a small probably C18 addition on the right gable
end. Timber framed; mid C20 plasterwork, with a band of pargetting across the
front. Roof of modern plaintiles. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell form.
Scattered fenestration. To the ground floor there are 2 good 3-light ovolo-
moulded mullion and transom windows with moulded sills and pedimented heads
enriched with dentils; these are probably early C17 additions. A number of
original windows have been exposed, and others inside remain blocked: the
mullions are ovolo-moulded on the ground floor and chamfered on the upper
floor. Some mid C20 casements. Lobby entrance with C19 6-panel door, the
upper 2 panels glazed. Internal stack. Inside there is a particularly fine
fully-exposed frame with much close studding. The storey posts in the hall
have elaborately-shaped heads; those in the-parlour have crudely-carved faces
as corbels: both support ovolo-moulded bridging beams with chamfered joists.
In the rear wall opposite the stack a blocked doorway with 4-centre arched
head. In the service chamber some early, perhaps original, window shutter
slides and 2 sliding oak shutters.
