Farmhouse. In 2 main phases, both C16; rear stair wing of early C17, now
incorporated in later lean-to additions. Timber framed, the front and right
gable end roughcast-rendered, the remainder plastered. Pantiled roof. Each
section comprises 2 cells, that to the right slightly recessed and lower, and
probably the later end. 2 storeys with attic in left section. Various
casement windows, those to the left mostly of C19 date; mid C20 metal-framed
windows to right. Lobby entrance: C19 6-panel door, the upper 2 panels
glazed; flat-roofed open porch on square timber posts. Mid C20 door to left.
Central axial stack, set at end of right section: lower portion of shaft is
original, the upper part rebuilt C19. Small late stack on outside of left
gable end. Interior. Left section has good full-height studding with curved
wall braces and blocked diamond-mullioned windows. Cambered tie beams with
heavy arched braces. On the ground floor the ceiling of the main room has a
chamfered bridging beam and heavy plain joists. Plain crown-post roof with
largely unbraced collar purlin. In the right hand section, some plain
studding with S-shaped wall braces. Unmodernised service chamber to extreme
right has 2 blocked diamond-mullioned windows and remains of black paintwork
on the timbers, probably original. Ground floor structure largely concealed
and service partition removed. Behind the stack is a newel stair,
substantially original, in a small addition with a well-preserved ovolo-
mullioned window.
