House. C15 origins with late C17 remodelling. Renovated 1970's. Timber
framed and rendered, thatched roof. 2 cells. 1½ storeys. Mid C20 standard
small-paned casement windows. Mid C20 lean-to on south side has boarded
entrance door. Internal stack with small red brick shaft. Interior. Rear
(north) cell contains the fragmentary end wall of a former open hall with half
of a 2-centre arched doorway. The roof over this cell, now of clasped purlin
form, contains re-used sooted rafters. A pair of wallposts less than 2m from
the south gable end suggests the house once continued further; the gable end
wall here has widely-spaced heavy studding, probably re-used. South cell has
small irregular joists, perhaps of late C17. The most important feature is
the very rare survival of an intact timber framed chimney; the brickwork of
the fireplace it served has been rebuilt.
