Description

BARSHAM
TM 39 SE
1/2 Barn 20m south east of
- Remains of Barsham Hall
GV II
Barn. Late C16. Timber framed and weatherboarded, with parapet gable ends of
random flint and red brick surmounted by square pinnacles. Pantiled roof. 6
bays, the 2 eastern bays partitioned off as stables, with a later intermediate
floor. The intact frame has heavy full-height studs without wall bracing; it
would seem the original cart entrance was in the westernmost bay. There are
short arched braces between the wall posts and tie beams. The roof has butt
purlins together with clasped purlins against diminished principal rafters;
one-way plank windbracing except in the western bay where it is 2-way.
