2/5 Wesleyan Chapel
-
- II
Chapel, with 'Wesleyan Chapel 1840' in a recessed lozenge in the apex of the
gable. Random knapped flint with white brick dressings; black glazed
pantiles; wide eaves overhang. The feet of the gables are ornamented with
acorn-like balls on stands; there was probably another originally at the apex.
All the windows have wooden Y-tracery: 2 large windows, and a small high
window at the west end to light the gallery, on each side wall; similar small
windows on each side of the entrance door, and one above it, all with
horizontal glazing bars and pintle hinges. Entrance door with 4 applied
moulded panels and a tall, pointed fanlight with Gothic tracery; a shallow-
pitched porch roof has pierced and fluted bargeboards and is supported by 2
outer timber columns and 2 inner quarter-round columns, linked on each side by
panelling with a single-light pointed window. The interior has a small
gallery at the west end and wooden benches with panelled backs.
