Description

TL 97 SE STANTON BURY LANE

3/29 Dorset Cottage

II

Cottage. C18. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and roughcast, with a steeply-hipped
thatched roof. A plain red brick chimney-stack set externally on the south
wall, and a single-storey brick and pantiled lean-to addition along the west
wall. 2 3-light C20 windows to ground storey; 2 2-light plain casements to
upper storey. Fully enclosed C20 gabled porch. Typical C18 softwood framing
inside: primary braces and bisected studs. The roof has a short ridge-piece,
no principal rafters, and clasped purlins, with the hips terminating in a
gablet at the apex: an unusual form, resembling the roof of a dovecot. An
early C19 extension to the cottage on the north side, with a second chimney-
stack, now forms a separate house and is not included in the listing.
