Public house, formerly house, late C16 with C18 and C20 additions. Timber
framed with colourwashed render and plaintiled roof, formerly thatched.
Two storeys with attic. Entrance front: C19 addition at right with brick
walling at ground floor level and hipped roof. To the left is a projecting
C20 single-storey addition with a hipped roof, plain, brick end wall and a
strip window to the right flank and doorway to the left flank. To right is
a further C20 porchway with hipped roof and plank door. Between these two
additions and at left is a 3-light C19 or C20 casement and there is a
similar window at right. To the first floor are one 3-light and three 2-
light casements. The roof is hipped at right and gabled at left. Axial
stack at left of centre of 2 flues with renewed brickwork. To the right
and below the ridge is a further single-flue stack probably originally of 2
flues. Right hand side: doorways at right and left and a 3-light ground
floor casement at right. Two 3-light first floor casements. Two-light
attic window at left with a flat-roofed dormer of 2 lights. Left hand
gable end: 2-light ground floor and a 3-light first floor window. Rear:
projecting wing to the left of 2 storeys and another at right of 1 1/2 storeys
with a flat roofed outshut between these at ground floor level.
Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams and close studding to the ground floor.
Traces of screens passage and division between service rooms indicated by
mortice holes in a beam. C18 pine beam and rafters to room beyond the
service rooms. Jowled wall posts to first floor and wind bracing to the
roof.
