St. James's Well
GV II
Well and wellhead. 1893, built by William John Evelyn and opened in August. Brick
and stone stepped plinth with Bargate stone piers and Horsham slab roofs. Square
plan with round piers on square pedestals and under cable moulding, square abaci
and cushion capitals. Timber roof of cross section with raking struts and pendant
finials to each gable apex, centre boss. Scalloped bargeboards on each gable.
Stone-side slab and trough in front with bronze tap and granite inscription plate.
Scrolled wrought iron surround with stone stile steps. Iron winding gear below
under canopy. A feature of the common.
