My mother, Bessie Silvester, was in domestic service at the house when she was 18 years old (1920). The bedrooms for the servants were on the right, overlooking woods and a footpath. She and her friends would look out of the windows and watch the kitchen-maid parading in finery given to her by the lady of the house, Mrs. Barry. There was a lake to the left of the building. Coincidentally, Bessie moved to this home from another "Highfield Park" - in Heckfield Hampshire.
