11/167 Noremarsh House and gate piers
II
House, late C17 - early C18. Rubble stone with ashlar quoins,
hipped stone slate roof with 3 hipped dormers. 3-bay, 2-storey with
attic. Central hallway and rear stair tower. Stacks to rear walls
of lateral rooms. C19 rear wings. Facade rendered, central framed
porch with low pitched gable on elaborate carved brackets, the
whole on stone moulded sill. 6-panelled rounded-head door within
moulded architraves and carved spandrels, all probably C17 work
imported from elsewhere, 16-pane sashes in 6 bays, windows to
return blocked, timber casements to dormers.
Interior: Large central hall and open well stair with panelled
dado and turned balusters. Chamfered axial ceiling beams.
Opposite porch, rusticated gate piers with ball finials.
Reputedly associated with the wool trade, evidenced by pulley wheel
in roof.
