1854-55 early Renaissance Italianate. 2 storey Bath stone, dressed and coursed.
Parapet ramped up to sides and centre. Billet moulding over ground floor; plain
moulding with grotesques to sides (an atlant end a lion of sorts) and another off
centre right. Bulge in centre for (lost) flagstaff. Arcade of 4 openings to ground
floor with drip moulds and dying mouldings to arches. No 39 retains carved capitals
to octagonal piers; piers of No 40 replaced by RSJ to both arches (now glazed).
2 pairs of arch headed windows on 1st floor, also with drip moulds; cable moulding,
coupled central colonettes with stiff leaf caps, piers to sides and mask cill brackets
on both pairs.
Nos 37 to 44 (consec), No 38A and Nos 46 to 48 (consec) form a group with No 13
Church Walk. No 43 is of local interest.
