Constructed as an integral part of the development of the College. College Road is aligned with the central entrance of the college and forms the main approach to it. The two lodges, the Principal’s Residence and the Caretaker’s/Gardener’s Lodge as well as the entrance gateway lower down College Road are positioned to frame the approach, the lodges limiting the view of the main college building until it is viewed in closer proximity.
Panelled ashlar gate piers with bases and capitals, curved rubble stone wing walls to either side with iron railings and rubble stone end piers. Gates replaced.
Included for its special architectural interest as an integral part of the design of the College, which is a good example of early C20 educational architecture. Group value with the Former Caerleon Teacher Training College Building, the nearby Caretaker’s/Gardener’s Lodge and the Principal's residence on College Road.
