History

Probably early C19 and unaltered since apart from the removal of the double gates. This was the service entrance to the house with the main drive coming from Usk Bridge to the north front, but became the main entrance when the front door of Pant-y-goitre was moved to the east front.

Exterior

Built of coursed squared red sandstone with wrought iron railings. Ogee curved dwarf walls run from square piers at the roadside to square piers at the central gateway. The wall is capped by a flat stone coping and spearhead railings. The piers have a base, a square shaft and a larger cap.

Reasons for Listing

Included for its special interest as the adjunct of a fine C18 country house and for having group value with it.
