History

Probably erected very soon after the recorded death in 1856.

Exterior

Forest of Dean ashlar with cast iron railings. Square plan neo-Classical monument with stepped moulded base, panelled shaft and moulded cap with cyma recta. It carries a draped urn.
Inscription on the shaft - 'IN MEMORY OF REV. WILLIAM BERKIN MEACKHAM LISLE LLD SIXTY-FOUR YEARS RECTOR OF THIS PARISH WHO DIED NOVR 3rd MDCCCLVI AGED 92 WHOM THE POOR WILL LONG REMEMBER THIS MONUMENT IS PLACED BY HIS SURVIVING FAMILY'. The whole is surrounded by a square of iron railings with spear finials, a few of the standards are missing.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a fine and complete mid C19 funerary monument with unusual historic interest for the long service of the Rector.
