An integral component of the original Rhymney Railway which was begun in 1854 and opened in 1858 from Rhymney, via Walnut Tree Junction, to Cardiff.
A curved 7-bay viaduct of snecked rock-faced stone. Piers have wide splays to round arches with impost bands. The 3 piers to the N end, and the N abutment, have tie rods to the spandrels, with square plates. The abutments have shallow buttresses. A projecting band is below the parapet, which has rock-faced copings and terminates with simple rectangular piers slightly splayed out. The deck is laid with a double track.
Listed as a visually imposing and fine work of C19 civil engineering.
