History

Originally two early C19 house and shop buildings, now combined. The facades to both were cosmetically altered in the mid-late C19; at this period new shopfronts and windows were inserted and the walls rendered.

Exterior

Two 3-storey late Georgian shop premises now combined, that to the R (no 9) stepped-up at eaves level. Of local rubble construction with later whitened render; slate roof and end chimneys with plain cornicing and weather-coursing. Unaltered C19 shop front: that to the L (no 11) has a simple wooden fascia with moulded cornice and a large 4-pane sash with marginal glazing; flanking entrances with part-glazed, modern doors and narrow rectangular overlights. The right-hand shop front (no 9) has a similar fascia with bracketed cornice and a large 6-pane window with entrance to the R; door as before. Single six-pane sashes to the upper floors of both units, the upper one under the eaves; projecting stone sills.

Interior

The interior was not inspected at the time of survey.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as an early C19 house and shop retaining good C19 character, in particular the well-preserved shop fronts; rare surviving examples of their type.
