History

The White Horse Inn is shown on the 1838 Tithe map, and recorded as the property of the Trustees of Richard Parry. The building was re-fronted in the mid to late C19.

Exterior

A two storey public house consisting of a main range facing south and having two rear wings. Sneck-coursed ashlar masonry at front in local limestone with freestone quoins and dressings to the door and windows. The west rear wing adjacent to the road and the rear of the main range are rendered. The east rear wing is in uncoursed limestone rubble masonry. Slate roofs with tile ridges, thin bargeboards not concealing the purlin ends. The main range has prominent red brick end chimneys with dentilled corbelling at top. Plain red brick mid-chimney on the east rear wing, rendered end-chimney on the west rear wing with two diagonally set red-brick shafts.

The front elevation is of three windows regularly spaced with the upper windows breaking the eaves line and given dormers with moulded bargeboards and finials. The eaves is supported by four brackets. The windows are of hornless sash type with six panes. Central porch with similar bargeboards and finial and timbering in the pediment. Modern outer storm doors. Notice boards, lamps, hanging brackets.

The road elevation (west) consists of the blank gable end of the main range and the three-window rear wing. 20-pane hornless sash windows above and below. Notice boards and hanging inn sign. Further notice boards on the rear gable of this wing.
