Lower Mill was built in 1803, but it is likely that the mill pool is of earlier date. The use of water power at this location dates from at least the late mediaeval period; there is also a reference to a mill in 1668, when it was associated with Tir-coch farm.
The pool to the south of the mill is retained by a massive stone wall of local limestone and an earth bank. A brick and stone archway with cast-iron gate connects the corner of the mill to the corner of the pool retaining wall at the north east side.
