History

Probably mid C19. Does not show on Risca Tithe Map of 1843. First edition OS map 1886 appears to show this farm as Tyn y berllan, with Pen y Fan the name of a building nearer the road.

Exterior

A small farmhouse and attached barn/byre range. Of limewashed rubble with Welsh slate roof and brick end stacks. Simple 2 window frontage with central doorway; small 3/3 pane casements with stone sills to first floor directly under eaves; larger though not matching to ground floor with shallow hoods, not original; boarded door. Boulder footings and stone bench outside right front window. Attached range in two builds has double doors and ventilation slits near house and other openings with timber lintels; gable end with loft opening partly renewed in blockwork. To rear end barn unit has pantiled roof, outshuts to cottage with small replaced ground floor window and rooflight.

Reasons for Listing

Included for its rare architectural interest as a small family farmstead of regional character, little altered externally.
