History

Pound for stray animals off the mountain, probably C19, not apparent on 1839 Tithe Map.

Exterior

Animal pound, some 5.5m diameter circular enclosure with 2m rubble stone and earth walls and single entry with stone slab lintel over. Entry is at NE and had a door or iron gate (now lost).

Reasons for Listing

Included as a well-preserved and relatively rare survivor of the pounds for stray animals that were particular to the margins of common land.
