Although usually considered the earliest of the arcades in Cardiff, Royal Arcade which began at St Mary Street, was extended through to The Hayes later in C19, from which period this entrance block dates.
Three storey polychrome front in Pennant stone with dressings and bands in bathstone and red brick. Red brick pilasters to ends. On second floor, central group of 3 windows with Italianate Gothic heads; sash glazing. On first floor, group of 3 square-headed windows with similar, single windows to ends; sash glazing. On ground floor, central entrance to arcade flanked by shops; canopy over entrance.
Integral part of Royal Arcade with group value with adjacent buildings in The Hayes.
