History

Baptismal pool rebuilt in 1864-5 presumably by R.K. Penson architect for the rebuilding of Llandyfan church. The baptistery was a holy well known from medieval times, said to cure 'paralytic affections', and probably used for baptisms also.

Exterior

Baptismal pool, rectangular, some 2m deep lined in red sandstone ashlar with low walls coped in grey limestone. Flight of stone steps down at right side of E wall and shallow rectangular pool with inlet on N, outlet on W.

Reasons for Listing

Included as an ancient holy well, unusually remodelled as baptistery in carefully constructed Victorian stone surround, of group value with Llandyfan church.
