The gardens at Gliffaes were laid by William H. West c1845 but the kitchen garden, to which the gazebo was attached, is probably later and associated with the building of a new house c1881. The house became a hotel c1936, after which the kitchen garden appears to have become disused, and parts of its walls taken down early 1960s.
Three storeys, the upper storey narrower, and square in plan, of rubble stone. Pyramidal slate roof with projecting eaves. The S side has 1st-floor doorway reached by stone steps built against garden wall and leading to a landing consisting of a stone slab on a rebuilt pier. The doorway has a big stone lintel and a boarded door. Beneath is another boarded door and in the upper storey is a small shuttered opening. In the E wall is a 2-light casement under a stone lintel in the lower storey, a tall 2-light casement in the middle storey under a lintel and hood mould, and a small shuttered opening above.
The kitchen garden is in two sections, the walls of which are considerably reduced in height.
Not inspected at time of survey (August 1997).
A prominent garden building retaining original character and contributing to the setting of the main house.
