History

Brynkinallt was the seat of the Trevor family since at least the C15. The Jacobean hall and grounds underwent major extension and remodelling from the early C19. The gated entrance was probably erected c1814 at the same time as the lodge was built at the entrance of the W drive through the park.

Exterior

The railings forming the re-entrant leading to the gates are of cast iron, square section, with an intermediate rail at the top of the dog rails of equal section. The rails have arrow heads. The gate piers are of local sandstone, four clustered shafts with base, mid-shaft ring and cap, above which the shafts diminish and combine to a point. The central gate is probably of later date, and has curved top and bottom braces and a central panel with the date 1612 in sheet iron. The side pedestrian gates are similar.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a good example of an early C19 park entrance, of group value with the associated lodge.
