History

Pair of earlier or mid C19 limekilns on the NW shore of Dale Roads, owned by the Dale Castle estate. Not marked on 1847 Tithe Map, but shown on 1875 O.S. There is one other similar but damaged kiln at Castlebeach Bay.

Exterior

Two rubble stone half-round lime-kilns built into bank and connected by a rubble stone retaining wall. Both have two opposed kiln-eyes with roughly triangular-headed openings, slab lintels, and stonework corbelled inwards and downwards to hearth. Crucibles not accessible and both kilns heavily overgrown (1997).

Reasons for Listing

A pair of earlier C19 limekilns, included as part of the agricultural history of this coastal region.
