The history of the Lodge is also that of the mansion, which was built in 1873-4 by W.E.Nesfield for Captain O.M. Crewe-Read.
Snecked rubble, with small slate-hanging to the upper floor, and timber framing jettied over the entrance. Arcaded ridge tiles. The building is of 1p storeys, 'L'-plan, the entrance raised above the driveway consisting of a stone quoined open porch. The upper floor of the porch is timber framed, and jettied, and the roof carried well in front of the bressumer. Paned timber casement windows with limestone lintels. Large ribbed brick axial stack.
Not accessible at time of inspection.
Included as a characteristic work by Nesfield, a leader in the Domestic Revival style of the third quarter of the C19, and respecting, by the use of local materials, slate hanging and timber framing, the local vernacular.
It is an excellently composed small scale building, of group value with the entrance gates and walls, and an important element in the total ensemble of Plâs Dinam.
