Cast iron mile marker of c.1830, set up by the Turnpike Trust on the newly engineered section of road, still referred to as the 'turnpike', to ease gradients on the climb to Kerry Pole [463m]. Triangular in plan, rising to a sloping top against a half-round backplate, now missing. Raised lettering reading: on left: ANCHOR 4 - M / KNIGHTON 17 - M. On the right: KERRY / 1½ - M / NEWTOWN / 4½ - M, with arrows pointing in the appropriate directions.
Included as a symbol of the improvements brought about by the turnpike trusts in the early C19.
