History

The existing wall is probably mostly mid C18-mid C19 but a close inspection shows three builds, base, main part, battlements. The base is thus presumably C17, the main build C18 and C19 while the battlements seem to have been added in about 1900. Most of the listed walls at St. Fagans Castle will have this kind of history.

Exterior

The boundary wall to the Castle grounds which is immediately to the east of the head gardener's house is of stone rubble with an embattled parapet and is similar to the wall which bounds the eastern side of the Rose garden, gains in height and then continues southwards as far as the stable entrance. To the north of the garden at the head gardener's house, the castle boundary wall is much higher and is of stone rubble with brick capping; this extends as far as the northern end of the yard occupied by the Plymouth Estate, and is interrupted by the entrance to the yard.
