History

Early to mid C19 end-terrace house with late Regency type classical detail. Some detail has been removed, the end wall to Mariners Square had slightly neo-Grec acroterial ornament at the corners of the gable and there was a first floor canted oriel. The front wall to Tower Hill had in 1974 a second door in right bay. Occupied by J.W. Phillips, solicitor to the Perrot's and Tasker's trustees, and by Mrs Annie Maria Rogers, china and glass dealer, in 1926.

Exterior

End terrace house, painted stucco with slate mansard roof and renewed stuccoed end chimneys. Two storeys and attic. Two bays to Tower Hill with parapet, moulded cornice and deep frieze over three plain pilasters with thin caps. Middle and right pilasters have raised square at mid-height, presumably added. Raised band between pilasters. Twelve-pane sash windows, two each floor, and basement window under ground floor left window. Four-panel door with overlight to right of left window, against centre pilaster. Frieze and cornice extend out to left of left pilaster but stop at slightly different taller pilaster at corner. End wall to Mariners Square is formally composed with channelled basement, the stucco stepped over a central small window, three bays above divided by four giant pilasters, the left one curved on angle to Dark Street, each with moulded caps, frieze and cornice above broken forward over pilasters. Plate glass sashes, narrow to outer bays each floor, ground floor centre broader sash, and plate glass tripartite sash to first floor centre (a canted oriel in old photograph). Gable above with small centre window.
Rear to Dark Street of painted roughcast with C20 door and two modern 6-pane windows below, two 12-pane sashes to first floor, a 12-pane central stair light above, and a 12-pane and an 8-pane window to upper floor. Channelled tooled stone at base of curved corner at right.
