Once part of Chandos House which formerly extended to the middle of West Street (road widened 1932). Originally the home of Brydges Family (James Brydges was the last Duke of Chandos and MP for Radnorshire), ownership passed to Price Family. In 1824 it became the Chandos Arms and after 1831, the leading coach inn in Knighton ( including Post and Inland Revenue Offices); it was closed in 1867. The present structure is the product of numerous alterations reaching its current appearance c1932.
3-storey and attic 3-window roughcast front with freestone quoins. Slate roof, wide boxed eaves with gable to centre (left of three on the original Chandos House front), plain bargeboards pendant and finial. 4-pane sashes with deep plain reveals and heavy lintels. Shopfront with 4 lights, half-glazed door under projecting moulded cornice.
4-panelled door with fanlight to right (in position of original pedimented doorpiece).
Roughcast 3-storey and basement side elevation to west street (1932 reconstruction) slate roof, hipped towards front, mansard to rear. Boxed eaves to former, coved to latter. 2 sash windows to front part (only 1 to 2nd floor) 3 dormers to rear part. 3 sash windows and casement bay window below. Shop front (Butcher's) to ground floor.
Roughcast rear. Brick stack, sashes, lean-to.
Some fine C18 panelling with raised fields survives internally, especially to antique shop.
