Portmeirion was designed and laid out by the celebrated architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978) following his purchase of the estate, then called Aber IĆ¢, in 1926. The village evolved over several decades and was still being added to in the 1970s.
Built in 1969 to designs of 1968; an administrative and reception block.
Simple building of domestic character; T-plan. Of 2 storeys with stucco elevations and slate roof with projecting end chimney to the L. The front elevation has 4 windows of which those at ground floor level have 12-pane sashes and those above have casements with diamond panes. Arched doorway to the left of centre with multipane door, and further arched entrance to the far L. The left gable end has a projecting porch to the first floor above an arched bridge, with parapetted curving walls flanking a high-level access path; arched entrance to the porch, with multi-pane door, as before. Storeyed rear projection with hipped roof; sashes and casements as before.
Listed as one of a number of buildings and structures designed by the eminent architect and conservationist Sir Clough Williams-Ellis for his visionary Portmeirion villiage.
