History

The remains of a medieval churchyard cross, probably C15. The ground floor of the arched market hall houses a large octagonal stone, with triple quatrefoils on each face, which is said to be the base of this cross.

Exterior

Red sandstone, shaft partly eroded. Base and shaft of medieval churchyard cross, standing some 2m high. Square socket stone broached to an octagon, and a tapering octagonal shaft with corner broaches.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a surviving medieval churchyard cross having group value with St Nicholas's Church.
