Early medieval remains off a stone wayside cross - local tradition is that it pointed travellers up to Pengwern but the conventual associations of the latter are doubtful and so the cross may have had another purpose or have been resited (it is not marked with Gothic script on the 1st edition OS map). Birch Hill and Maesmawr Road form an ancient way, said to be Roman.
Octagonal base with inset broken and heavily weathered stem. Now in iron railed enclosure.
Group value with Llwyn Aeron, Pen-y-Bedw and Pen-y-Bedw Cottage and Highcroft and Birch Villa.
