Description

Circa 1850; rebuilt 1883-4, Blaikie Brothers, Aberdeen; structure strengthened 1977. Curved, 14-span railway viaduct over Cowie Water. Reducing, 4-stage stepped piers; squared and snecked rubble at stages 1 to 3, concrete at stage 4. Platform comprises 3 central plate girders with strengthening of additional centre girder and steel plate bases above. All surmounted by wrought-iron plate girder parapet.

Statement of Interest

The imposing Glenury Viaduct is a prominent landmark on the south east edge of Stonehaven, carrying the main Aberdeen Railway Company line across the glen which snakes up toward Ury House. The original structure was built with timber arches.
