Description

Mid/later 19th century with rear additions 1903 and 1950. Single storey, 15-bay row of farm workers' cottages; 1903 1-bay, piend-roofed extensions to rear of each one, with 1950s flat-roofed additions between. Snecked sandstone with droved ashlar dressings. Eaves course; replacement concrete window cills to S. Regular fenestration to S with timber boarded doors in 5th, 8th and 11th bays from left. Slightly advanced gable-end stacks.

12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Ashlar coped skews with kneelered putts. Corniced stacks, some clay cans. Graded grey slate.

Statement of Interest

This row originally comprised five cottages, but has been converted to form three, probably in the 1980s. The chimney stacks seem to have been removed at the same time. The cottages were built as part of Bonaly Farm, and despite the alterations mentioned above, are still relatively intact. Other surviving buildings of Bonaly Farm are Bonaly Steading (now converted to flats) and the old farm house at 9 Bonaly Rd. 20 Bonaly road, built in 1889, was the Farm Overseer's house. Together these buildings reflect Bonaly's agricultural past.
