Frederick Pilkington, 1867-9. L-plan formerstable block (converted to residential use) with secular French Gothic detailing; 2-storey main block and single storey wing to NW. Round-arched openings; bracketed eaves; beaked gables; finialled dormers breaking eaves. Rock-faced pink sandstone with cream sandstone dressings and band courses.
W (COURTYARD) ELEVATION: segmental-arched cart entrance to right with modern glazing; modern conservatory to left; 3 dormers breaking eaves above. Piend-roofed single storey wing projecting to outer right with 3 segmental-arched openings (modern glazing); decorative carved stone to down pipe.
S ELEVATION: gabled end elevation with round-arched windows to ground and 1st floors; polygonal chimney stalk corbelled out with decorative carving to base.
E (REAR) ELEVATION): segmental arched openings to ground floor. Bipartite dormers with round-arched windows flanking shouldered wallhead stack.
N ELEVATION: gable end of 2-storey block to left with segmental-arched openings to ground. Single storey wing to right.
Plate glass, some sash and case, some top hoppers; some modern glazing. Blue-grey slates. Polygonal stacks with cushioned caps.
BOUNDARY WALL, GATEPIERS AND ENTRANCE ARCH: coped high rubble boundary wall. Pyramidally coped ashlar gatepiers. Crowstepped ashlar entrance arch.
Built as stables for Kingston House, originally known as Craigend Park. Kingston House (separately listed) was designed by Pilkington for William Christie, tailor, 'Glover and Breeches Maker, 16 George Street.'
