Probably earlier 19th century. Walled garden. Flat-coped brick and squared rubble with deep concave arc to W extending into screen wall at outer angles, and serpentine curve to E. Pedestrian opening to approximate centre of S wall. Low brick walls to S elevation of N wall (remains of glass houses) with squared rubble wall behind and panelled timber door to pedestrian opening with droved margins and brick relieving arch; remains of potting sheds to N elevation.
The walled garden, although breached to the NE was largely in good condition at time of listing (2003). A late 19th century photograph shows its remarkable plan, as well as glass houses, and espaliered fruit trees to S elevations of both N and S walls. Bricks were produced locally at both Whitecross and Candie. Lathallan House (listed separately), originally known as Laurence (or Lawrence) Park, was built in 1826 and designed by Thomas Hamilton. The Power House and Ivy Cottage are also listed separately in a B Group with the house.
