James Gillespie Graham, 1820; JR MacKay, 1932. Perpendicular Gothic elevation of former Nicolson Street Church with later rebuilding to rear.
E (NICOLSON STREET) ELEVATION: Tudor Gothic 5-bay elevation to Nicolson Street with pinnacled buttresses and crenellated parapet. Low ashlar-coped wall to street with later metal railings; stone steps to 2-leaf timber-panelled door in hoodmoulded Tudor-arched surround with mask label stops. Lancet windows with Perpendicular tracery. Coursed ashlar.
Body of building rebuilt by JR Mackay after a fire in 1932.
Although the fire damaged body of the church was demolished in 1934, Gillespie Graham's fine elevation continues to play an important role in the streetscape of Nicolson street.
According to Grant, the church was built on the site of an Antiburger meeting-house, at a cost of #6000.
