James Maitland Wardrop, 1877. Single storey and attic, 2-bay, L-plan Jacobean lodge with shaped gables. Harled with stone margins. Stone mullions and chamfered reveals.
SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: dominant finialled gabled bay to right of centre with canted window at ground and single window in gablehead, set-back bay to left with pitch-roofed rustic porch.
SW ELEVATION: gabled elevation with single window in finialled gablehead, ground floor detail not visible from road.
Plate glass glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Ashlar-coped skews. Moulded bargeboarding to porch.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: semicircular-coped rubble boundary walls with pyramidally-coped square-section ashlar gatepiers.
The former Philiphaugh House has been replaced with a 1964 building by Sir William Kininmonth.
