Decorated lamp and standard; painted red. Plain shaft; crossbar; glass lantern with Kilmarnock Burgh Arms painted on all 4 faces; surmounted with cresting.
Prior to the 1975 Local Government (Scotland) Act both Lord Provosts and Baillies were entitled to 2 official standard lamps outside their residences. After the appointment of a new provost, the outgoing provost retained one of these lamps. The lamp at 30 Samson Avenue marks the old residence of one of the last provosts of Kilmarnock, Annie Mackie. With local government reforms in 1975, Kilmarnock lost its Town Council and consequently its Coat of Arms, which was based on the Boyd Family heraldry.
