Circa 1900. Octagonal timber auction mart sale hall with polygonal roof and octagonal-capped centre ventilator. Boarded timber. Broad 2-leaf timber door to W, small flat-roofed rectangular-plan extension to E, and 2 windows to each remaining face (some blocked). Each roof segment with bipartite below single pane rooflight.
Some 4-pane glazing pattern in fixed windows retained. Purple slates. Finialled, timber-louvred ventilator.
This old auction mart is now in use as joiners workshop. Further examples of octagonal auction mart halls built around 1900 or later can be found at Newton Stewart, Lockerbie, Castle Douglas and Reston, evidently a form favoured in the south of the country for livestock sales.
